Fire Warden

Maximum 12 delegates – suitable for individuals appointed as Fire Warden

This course covers

  • An introduction to fire safety legislation
  • An introduction to the chemistry of fire (what fire is / Triangle of Fire)
  • Common causes of fire in the workplace looking at fire hazards, risk of fire and control measures
  • Duties and responsibilities of the Fire Warden including:
    • Routine checks
    • Maintaining emergency escape routes and exits
    • Evacuation procedures
    • Staff training
  • Theoretical and practical use of fire extinguishers and fire blanket

At the end of this session your staff will

  • Have an understanding of legal duties and responsibilities under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
  • Have an understanding of what fire actually is
  • Have an appreciate of common causes of fire in the workplace, including hazard identification, risk posed by identified hazards and control measures to reduce the risk of fire
  • Have a good understanding of the role, responsibilities and duties of the Fire Warden
  • Be able to identify the different types of fire extinguisher and the classes of fire for which they should be used
  • Have sufficient knowledge and confidence to be able to risk assess a fire situation and take positive action without putting themselves in danger i.e. tackling a small fire using the most appropriate method, safely and effectively
  • Be aware of the limitations of use of all types of fire extinguisher
  • Demonstrate the correct use of 2 types of fire extinguisher on two real* fires, under controlled conditions
  • Have an understanding of the correct use of a fire blanket
